Release notes
Beta 3 makes Productivities an even stronger all-in-one personal information management system. We have refined the interface so destinations feel more predictable, added Feeds as a new way to bring information into your workspace, and expanded Automations so useful information can find you at the right time.
The app is now close to its first public release. We expect Beta 4 to be the final beta before we introduce Productivities more widely.
General
- A more focused workspace: the main workspace now sits within a subtle floating sheet above the surrounding application surface, giving your work a clearer sense of place.
- Clearer navigation and actions: the left side of the app is for navigating to tools, Spaces, tags, and saved views; the right side is for actions available wherever you are. Quick Actions and the former bottom popouts now live together in one reorderable Action Panel.
- AI without the persona: the built-in agent is no longer presented as Hably. Productivities now treats AI as a capability rather than a character. Its button sits quietly in the bottom-right corner and expands when you need it.
- Automatic updates: Productivities can now tell you when a new version is available and guide you through updating from either a notification or the new Updates section in Settings. Future releases no longer need to be downloaded manually.
- Send feedback from the app: choose Send Feedback from the app menu to report an issue or share an idea directly with us.
- Slash commands in the Command Bar: press / to see available commands. These include creating reusable website shortcuts in real time so useful destinations are always close at hand.
- One complete Action Panel: all available actions now appear in the panel instead of being enabled individually in Settings. Select Manage to hide or reorder anything you do not need.
- More powerful views: create a view directly from a tool's view menu, then use the new editor to control both what it includes and how it looks. You can hide Pin previews, remove image filenames, and tailor each view to its purpose.
- Two new light themes: Forest and Ocean add more ways to make the workspace your own.
Pinboard
- Views that suit the content: build an article view without descriptions or preview images, or create a visual collection that shows only artwork for your favourite television programmes. Pinboard now benefits fully from the expanded view controls.
- Custom Pin properties: add reusable name-and-value properties to Pins, just as you can with Markdown Pages, and build views around them. Rate saved films, track research status, or add whatever metadata matters to you.
- Improved PDF annotation: Productivities can now detect highlights already embedded in an annotated PDF.
- Link to files outside the workspace: create Pins that reference files where they already live. Keeping files inside the workspace still makes migration and Productivities Cloud easier, but external links give you more flexibility when files need to remain elsewhere.
Spaces
- Better Space-first workflows: if you organise by creating a Space before its content, you can now place Spaces before Tools in the tabbed navigation, create content from a new hover action, and reorder the creation menu so your most-used object types appear first.
- Tabs, in plain language: we have retired the term Space Artefact. You now simply add Tabs to a Space. Productivities creates object-type tabs automatically as content is associated with the Space, while optional tabs such as Timelines and Routines add richer, context-specific surfaces.
Pages
- Edit a Page's raw Markdown whenever you need direct access to the underlying file.
- The block grab handle now sits on the left, making it easier to reach and more consistent with familiar block editors.
- Two-column layouts: split a Page into two columns. This remains backed by a Markdown file, but columns require additional layout syntax that makes the file less portable. Productivities explains the trade-off before you first use the feature.
- Insert a table of contents from the slash-command menu for quick navigation between sections.
- Duplicate block content without recreating it manually.
- Several fixes make editing and organising Pages more reliable.
Tasks
- Use the left and right arrow keys while the task modal is open to move between its tabs.
- Reorder subtasks independently of the sort order applied to their parent tasks.
Calendar
- Birthdays: birthdays from People now appear in Calendar, with a reminder seven days beforehand.
- Scheduled tasks in All Day: tasks scheduled for a date appear in that day's All Day area. Drag them onto the timeline to plan them, or move them between days by dragging from one All Day area to another. Task visibility can be disabled from the Calendar three-dot menu.
- Retrospective time tracking: if you forget to start a timer, use a time block's three-dot menu to log that period as tracked time afterwards.
- Repeat time blocks up to an end date you choose.
- Duplicate events and time blocks.
- Fixed an issue that could prevent a time block from repeating.
Tables
- Advanced filtering: build more expressive filters from the toolbar instead of filtering each property individually.
- Refined the appearance of Select and Multi-select pills.
- Fixed an issue that could prevent Number properties from saving correctly.
Canvas
- Annotate frames to add context directly to a visual workspace.
- Duplicate shapes.
- Resize any shape from all four corners instead of only the bottom-right corner.
Feeds
Feeds is a new way to capture incoming information in Productivities and build a valuable library of Highlights. Pinboard remains ideal for one-off “save it for later” captures; Feeds gives you a continuing stream to sift, read, watch, highlight, or save. Think of it as a Readwise-style workflow integrated directly into your personal information system.
- Bring your sources together: subscribe to RSS and Atom feeds, YouTube channels, and Bluesky feeds. Read or watch supported content in one place, then choose which articles, videos, or posts to Pin, highlight, or schedule in Planner.
- Automation Output feeds: send the result of an Automation into a dedicated feed. You might create a daily workload briefing, collect an AI-generated news summary, or build a recurring stream that helps you understand how you work.
Feeds is an optional Pro tool. Read the Feeds guide for setup, reading workflows, saving items, retention limits, and OPML import/export.
