Release notes

Beta 2 is a substantial update focused on making Productivities faster, more flexible, and safer for the work you trust it with. Startup and navigation are quicker, the workspace can now show two views side by side, saved views and tags are easier to reach, and Private Spaces introduce full encryption at rest.

We have also expanded Pages, Pinboard, People, Databases, Calendar, Automations, Plugins, and the MCP server, alongside a broad collection of fixes and smaller quality-of-life improvements.

General

• Password recovery: Productivities now includes a recovery-key flow to help you regain access if you forget your password. If you are upgrading from an earlier beta, you will be asked to generate and download a recovery key after installing Beta 2. Keep it somewhere safe: it is your route back into your data.
• Faster startup: repeat launches are around 30% faster on average. The first launch still prepares the app so that future startups can be quicker.
• A much faster Command Bar: searching and interacting should feel considerably more responsive. We also fixed a bug that unnecessarily brought the main app window forward whenever you created a task, Pin, or note from the Command Bar.
• Faster tool loading: moving between tools now feels noticeably quicker.
• Saved views in the sidebar: filtered views can now appear beneath their tool in the navigation sidebar, giving you one-click access to useful perspectives such as Today, Tomorrow, and the Next 7 Days.
• Navigate by tag: open a tag to see its related content in the same way you browse a Space. Tags can also be renamed globally and added as bookmarks.
• Two sidebar modes: choose Single Pane when tools, Spaces, and tags are easy to manage together, or Tabbed when you want a clearer separation as your workspace grows. Switch modes at any time using Customise Sidebar at the bottom-left of the navigation sidebar.
• Side-by-side Split Workspace: as well as switching between views, you can now place two tools, Spaces, or tag views beside one another. Read a Pinboard PDF while writing in Pages, or drag tasks from Planner into Calendar while both remain visible. Split Workspace stays intentionally limited to two views: enough context to work effectively without turning the app into a wall of tabs.
• Restored workspace: your chosen Split Workspace mode and views are retained when you quit and reopen the app.
• Action Panel: the Quick Actions area now has a dedicated panel where you can create, arrange, and manage actions.
• Plan Your Week: a new Quick Action helps you schedule tasks directly into the Week Calendar.
• Rediscover: a new Quick Action resurfaces content from your workspace, helping useful information find its way back to you.
• Native macOS sharing: use the Share menu item or icon to send supported content to other apps through the macOS share sheet.
• Trash is easier to reach: it now lives in the bottom-right companion panel instead of being hidden in the Admin Console.
• Workspace-wide source control: source control is no longer limited to Pages. It can now cover Markdown, images, documents, and media across the workspace. Enable it from Settings → Workspace → Source Control and exclude content you do not want to track.
• Space Artefacts enabled by default: the framework is now available to Free and Pro users without a Settings toggle. Individual artefacts still follow their relevant plan and feature access.
• Encrypted Private Spaces: the earlier application-level locks for Spaces and individual objects have been retired. Making a Space private now encrypts its supported content on disk, and each Private Space can use a different password.
• Snoozable notifications: desktop notifications can now be snoozed for up to 30 minutes.
• Hably conversation history: Ask Hably now keeps your recent conversations so you can return to them later.
• Expanded MCP support: the MCP server now includes Database and People controls, plus access to the workspace event stream.
• View Settings: most views now include a View Settings menu inside their three-dot menu, making it easier to control how information is presented.
• More on Free: filtered views and the Routines Space Artefact are now included in the Free version.
• Bring Productivities forward: a new configurable shortcut can bring the Productivities window to the foreground.

Pages

• The editor has received another round of stability improvements, including a refreshed slash-command menu.
• Pages can now include external folders, allowing you to read and edit local Markdown files alongside your regular Productivities Pages.
• Filtering has arrived in Pages. Filter your Markdown files, save the view, and optionally place it in the navigation sidebar.
• Fixed an issue that prevented Markdown files larger than 100 KB from saving. Pages now supports Markdown files up to 5 MB.
• Improved the layout of bulleted and numbered lists.
• You can choose which folder opens first when you visit Pages, instead of always starting in All Pages after launch.
• Fixed Open in Pages so it opens the correct Page when using Split Workspace.
• Optimised Page loading so documents open more quickly.
• Added a View Setting to hide the new-line hint for Page links and slash commands.

Pinboard

• Reworked Pinboard loading to remove the jitter that could appear as more Pins loaded while scrolling. Lazy loading should now feel smooth and stable.
• Added support for Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint files; CSV files; CBZ comic archives; and HEIC, HEIF, TIFF, and TIF images.
• Each Pin now shows its type by default. You can hide Pin types in View Settings from the Pinboard three-dot menu.

People

• People can now have relationships with one another, and those connections appear in Graph View.
• Person records now open in a modal from Gallery View, keeping your place while you review or edit a profile.
• Add People to Canvas to map relationships and connect them to the wider context of your work.

Forms

• Added a Decimal control for values that need more precision than whole numbers.
• Hosted Productivities installations can create one public link per Form, allowing people outside the workspace to submit a response.

Databases

• Databases now support multiple view types, beginning with Gallery View. To better describe data across tables, galleries, and future views, the interface now uses Records and Properties as its primary terms instead of rows and columns.
• Smart Tables can now target People, making views such as upcoming birthdays or overdue follow-ups easy to create.
• Added a Pin property type for connecting records directly to saved material.
• Tables within a Database are now presented as tabs, and the table grid uses the full view area.
• Added an Excel-style drag handle to the bottom-right of each table cell, allowing you to copy a value across adjacent cells.
• Records now support background and font colours.

Calendar

• Calendar now supports filtering by calendar, keyword, and start time. Filters can be saved as views for quick access later.
• Meeting invitees are matched to People records where possible, and you can create a new Person directly from an attendee list.
• The number of days shown in Week View can now be changed from the Calendar three-dot menu instead of Settings.
• Fixed an issue that prevented tasks from being dragged between days in Week View.
• Refined the visual design to give Productivities Calendar a clearer identity of its own.

Spaces

• Manual and Smart Spaces are now one flexible model. Add content yourself while also allowing Productivities to bring in matching content through keywords, Pin types, or hashtags.
• Spaces with only one object-type tab no longer display the tab bar, leaving more room for the content itself.
• Choose from 16 built-in Space cover banners, or continue to upload your own.
• Private Spaces now encrypt supported Space content on disk. Associated file-backed content can only be decrypted after the Space is unlocked with its password.
• Work has begun on the Dashboard Space Artefact. It remains in development and is not yet complete.

Tasks

• Drag the progress control at the bottom of the task modal to record how far a task has moved. Progress is shown alongside the task in Tasks and Planner.
• Tasks and Planner now support finer-grained, multi-select filtering by task type, priority, status, and whether a task is scheduled.
• Task List now has a multi-select mode for applying changes to several tasks at once.
• Improved natural-language task capture so date, day, time, and frequency terms are removed from titles less aggressively.
• Fixed an issue that could duplicate subtasks.

Automations

• Added a Modal Popup output action for surfacing information inside the app. For example, an automation can present an AI-generated news briefing every morning at 9am.

Plugins

• Travel Map: a new Space Artefact for placing locations on a map and recording visits. The map downloads on first use and then works entirely locally.
• Readwise Integration: import Readwise highlights so they are available in the Productivities Highlights tool.
• Spotify and SoundCloud: new plugins make it easier to save and embed favourite music as Pins.

Under the hood (for the curious)

• Reduced the app footprint by around 25% by targeting operating-system-specific dependencies at build time.
• Continued the move towards clear domain-authority boundaries for each tool and expanded the app's domain event stream. Domain services can publish events that subscribing components—including Activity and the MCP server—can consume.
• Continued work towards a cloud-backed service that preserves a rich local client while using minimal, robust cloud infrastructure. We are also exploring how far end-to-end encryption can extend while supporting integrations such as cloud AI providers and cloud-based Automations.
• Expanded automated test coverage to more than 3,000 tests, helping us ship each release with greater confidence.
